About

Hello, my name is Carl Tierney. I am a Licensed Professional Counseling Associate in Texas. I utilize both a client-centered and hope focused approach in counseling. I am a graduate of Liberty University with a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. I am also a graduate of Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication. I have utilized a variety of counseling approaches that provide my clients hope for the future, and to work alongside them to help them achieve their counseling goals.

When working with children, I primarily utilize Client-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT). I have completed the "Foundations of Play Therapy Seminar" by Carrie Longest, Ph.D. in 2020 and I completed the "Sand Tray Play Therapy Level 1 Seminar" by Sean P. Jennings, Psy.D. and Aimee Jennings, LMHC in 2021. I have been trained in using Parent Child Interaction Therapy (P.C.I.T) in 2023 which is an evidence-based model for helping young children 2 to 7 years old who demonstrate behavioral challenges. I have been trained in 2022 by the Baker Center in utilizing the Modular Approach to Therapy for Children (MATCH-ADTC) to help children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 in treating Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, and Conduct challenges. I additionally utilize Art Therapy, Bibliotherapy, and Relaxation Therapy when providing counseling for children.

When working with adults, I utilize Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. I utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) when working with couples. I completed a four-day externship training on Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples that was conducted by Sue Johnson (EFT Founder) and Michael Barnett (EFT Trainer) in 2018. I have recently completed an EFT Core Skills Training in January 2024. I have been trained by the Baker Center in utilizing Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) in 2023 to provide help to adolescents and adults to overcome difficult and traumatic experiences. I can provide a faith-based approach in counseling sessions when requested by the client.

I have worked with children to address ADHD, depression, anxiety, emotional outbursts, aggression, autism spectrum disorder, adjustment to changes in their living circumstances, and trauma. I have worked with adults to address addictions, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, major neurocognitive disorder, relationship difficulties, and trauma. I have provided counseling for couples dealing with intimate partner relationship concerns.

As a counselor, I believe that instilling hope is important to life change, and that positive change can be a reality. My personal goal as a counselor is to provide an environment that facilitates healing and recovery, and to provide therapy best suited to address the client’s needs.
