About

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Educational Psychology from Baylor University. I then earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Sam Houston State University along with a Play Therapy Certificate, which is the first step in becoming a Registered Play Therapist. I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate and supervised by Dr. Sinem Akay-Sullivan, Ph.D., LPC-S, RPT-S.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, college students, and young adults. I also have helped parents learn parenting strategies as well as teach them how to interact with their children using the same play therapy techniques used in a typical play session. My areas of focus include anxiety, attachment, anger, trauma, and daily life stressors. When working with children, my therapeutic orientations lie within Child-Centered Play Therapy and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. When working with adolescents, college students, and young adults, my therapeutic orientations lie within Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Client-Centered Therapy. Depending on the age of my client, I use a combination of play therapy, sandtray therapy, and individual talk therapy, as well as faith-based therapy upon request.

I was very curious as I grew up, asking “why” questions as I was always trying to find answers to things. This curiosity naturally led me to the brain and trying to understand why people do what they do and why people are the way that they are. Beginning in Junior High, I began volunteering with elementary kids. I loved watching the way they interacted with others as well as hearing the same questions I once asked. The more I volunteered with kids the more I realized this population has so much going on and do not always have the tools to cope with life’s challenges, nor the voice to speak up. I began searching for ways I could help kids learn to cope with their stressors, give them the tools they need to succeed, and most importantly allow them to have their own voice.  I believe every child is unique, and therefore I treat them as such. Although I help come up with treatment goals and plans, along with a child’s parents, I allow the child to be themselves in the session by letting them choose the session themes. My initial curiosity of people as well as my passion for working with children led me on a journey that ended up with me wanting to work with people of all ages professionally through therapy.

If you’re ready to search out help for yourself or your child, I would love to meet you and walk alongside you on this journey called life.
